Director's Statement:

I first met Makara Thach Sernett during an art class my wife and I attended earlier this year. While chatting with Makara, I casually asked how she got started in art, expecting a typical response about learning in school. Instead, Makara shared a glimpse of her incredible journey from growing up in refugee camps, her near death experiences, and how art has been her lifeline through it all. It was clear that her story needed to be told.

This project was created on a shoestring budget, with just two days of shooting and the generous support of friends who volunteered their time. The goal was simple but profound: to capture Makara’s story, showcase her art, and convey her powerful message of allowing people to find a moment of reflection within her work. This was a labor of love, driven by the passion to highlight the resilience and inspiration that art can bring.
