Artist Statement

In my practice, I combine the formal technique of indirect painting and impasto, with imaginative landscapes to explore memories of my past. I focus on the intention and emotion of the scene, now re-imagined as an adult, rather than the exact accuracy of the previous moment. In these re-imaginings, I often scale various parts of the scene to match the emotion, combining autofiction into my practice. I refer to this practice as "narrative landscapes", due to their heavy emotional combination intertwined with natural elements.

I utilize dreamy color schemes and spacious compositions to emphasize the distance of the past, and reflect healing from my own personal journey as an immigrant and refugee. My goal is to bring joy and comfort to the viewer by showing the healing within my own story.
